CSW 66: Policies to empower young women

No country today can claim to have achieved gender equality. Women account for half the world’s population, yet many face discrimination, social-economic barriers, cultural stereotypes and/or physical and sexual violence. According to IPU data, young women face double discrimination based on age and sex. Less than one per cent of MPs aged under 30 are young women.

To shed light on these issues and mobilize young parliamentarians around needed solutions from both a gender and a youth responsive policy-making perspective, the IPU is organizing an online briefing on policies to empower young women. This briefing is part of the IPU’s Empowerment Series for young parliamentarians. The online briefing will be organized in the form of a virtual panel discussion.
